Jurnalista Anne Legendre percepe lucrurile printr-o dualitate sporita si mereu adancita: cu luciditate transanta si totodata intr-un mod extrem corporal. Ea este si in mod intens femeie (amanta), dar si o mama ardenta; e inclusiv o fiica hibridata sufleteste cu figura paterna. Caci exista trei patrii (psihologice) pentru aceasta femeie stratificata: cea a iubitilor, cea a fiului si cea a tatalui. Personajul se afla in mijlocul unei questa din care face o dezbatere pro si contra, lasandu-l pe cititor sa aleaga o baricada sau alta. Asa incat acest roman e pentru toate generatiile si varstele, pentru romani, ca si pentru straini, pentru estici ori pentru occidentali, pentru femei in egala masura ca si pentru barbati.
